travel crates
At Global Paws, we manufacture our own wooden travel crates that are compliant with airline and IATA guidelines and also offer airline approved plastic kennels.
Wooden crates
Crafted by our skilled box manufacturing teams, in Johannesburg and Cape Town, our wooden travel crates adhere to all airline and IATA regulations. Made from high-quality timber, they are sturdy, secure, and ensure the safety of your pets throughout their journey.
Ventilation is crucial, and our crates are designed to provide ample airflow while keeping your pets comfortable. We understand the importance of comfort, especially during long journeys, which is why we've developed our own Pet Travel Bedding to perfectly fit each crate. Wooden pet travel crates are typically for single use, however, if stored indoors and maintained well, wooden crates can be reused if permitted by country regulations.
Plastic travel kennels
Our plastic kennels are constructed from durable composite plastic and feature a built-in iron door (plastic doors are not permitted). Door hinges and locking pins extend beyond the door opening by at least 1.6 cm (5/8 in) to ensure security and safety during travel.
Not all plastic travel kennels on the market are airline approved, despite some claiming to be. To ensure compliance, it's essential to verify with your consultant whether your crate is genuinely approved for airline travel.
Accurate pet measurements
It's crucial to measure your pet accurately to ensure we choose the correct size travel container. Airfreight costs are determined based on the volumetric weight of the travel crate, meaning the space it occupies in the aircraft hold.
How to measure your pet?
1.Grab a pencil.
2.Stand your pet against a wall.
3.Ensure your pet's posture is straight with its neck in a natural position.
4.Use the pencil to mark the wall at the top of your pet's head or ears (include pointy ears in the measurement).
5.Make another mark on the wall at the tip of your pet's nose and rear end (excluding the tail).
6.Measure your pet's height by using a tape measure to determine the distance from the floor to the head mark.
7.Measure your pet's length by finding the distance from the nose mark to the rear end mark.
8.Measure your pet's width by assessing the distance from the left to the right shoulder.
9.Measure your pet's leg length from the elbow joint to the floor using a tape measure.
Selecting the right crate
Selecting the right travel kennel for your pet is essential for their comfort and safety during the journey. It's crucial that the crate isn't too small or too large. The airlines mandate that there's ample room inside the crate for your pet to stand up straight, sit down, turn around, and lie down comfortably without touching the sides.
