India
1. Age of Animal
Puppies and kittens must be 5 months or older for travel to India.
They must have their own Rabies vaccination (which can be administered at 12 weeks of age).
2. Microchip
Your pet must be microchipped with a 15-digit, ISO compliant pet microchip. The microchip should be implanted either before or at the same time as the first Rabies vaccination. Only a microchip implanted by an official, registered veterinarian will be accepted for export purposes.
3. Rabies Vaccination
Two Rabies vaccinations are required. Both vaccinations must have been given no less than thirty days and no more than one year before the intended travel date. The second Rabies vaccination should be administered thirty days after the first one, and within one year of the first Rabies vaccination’s expiry.
Please note: Only an official, registered veterinarian can administer these vaccinations for export purposes. Vaccinations given by a veterinary nurse, breeder, or welfare organisation staff will not be accepted.
4. Annual Vaccinations
Two sets of annual vaccinations are required and the second set must be older than 30 days but not older than one year upon arrival. If your pet needs boarding or kenneling before or after travel, all reputable kennels will require proof of a valid vaccination.
For Dogs: Canine Distemper, Infectious Canine Hepatitis, and Canine Parvovirus,
Canine Parainfluenza, Bordetella Bronchiseptica (Kennel Cough), Leptospirosis.
For Cats: Feline Panleukopenia (Infectious Enteritis), Feline Respiratory Disease Complex, and Feline Leukemia. Snuffles vaccinations for cats are also highly recommended.
Please note: Only an official, registered veterinarian can administer these vaccinations for export purposes.
5. Import Permit (Non-Objection Certificate / NOC Doc)
The NOC is required by the airline to allow your pet to depart from the origin country and enter India. Obtaining the NOC takes two to three working days. After that, the original quarantine NOC and the owner's original passport must be presented to a customs officer at the cargo terminal for a second permission, known as customs permission. Depending on the officers on duty, this can take anywhere from two to five working days to complete.
Your consultant will provide you with further information on this process. It is highly recommended that you work with an agent in India to assist with these steps.
6. Number of Pets Per Family
Only two pets are allowed into India per family or household, though our agents have sometimes managed to bring in three pets in the past. Each case is handled individually. Pets are defined as domestic dogs and cats. Other types of pets might be able to enter India under an exception ruling by the DGFT. These rulings can take up to 90 days, and the outcome is not guaranteed.

9. Health Certificate
Your pet must have a Health Certificate issued by a private veterinarian, confirming compliance with the above requirements and endorsed by a State Vet. This certificate needs to be obtained within 7 days of departure and is required for the application of the NOC document. Your pet can travel on the same Health Certificate and NOC document as long as the certificate remains valid. If the 7 days have lapsed, a new Health Certificate will need to be obtained. We provide our clients with a completed and accurate Health Certificate, along with clear guidance on what needs to be done.
