1. Age of Animal
Puppies and kittens must be 5 months or older for travel to Hong Kong.
They must have their own Rabies vaccination (which can be administered at 12 weeks of age).
2. Microchip
Your pet must be microchipped before receiving the Rabies vaccination. Microchips must be ISO or AVID (AVID encrypted transponder with an alphanumeric code in the format of AVID*XXX*XXX*XXX) compatible to enter Hong Kong. Thereafter, dogs will be re-chipped at the expense of the permittee or agent.
3. Rabies Vaccination
Your pet’s Rabies vaccination must be at least 31 days old but no more than one year old.
Please note: Only an official, registered veterinarian can administer these vaccinations for export purposes. Vaccinations given by a veterinary nurse, breeder, or welfare organisation staff will not be accepted.
4. Annual Vaccinations
Annual vaccinations are required and must be older than 14 days but not older than one year upon arrival. If your pet needs boarding or kenneling before or after travel, all reputable kennels will require proof of a valid vaccination.
For Dogs: Canine Distemper, Infectious Canine Hepatitis, and Canine Parvovirus,
Canine Parainfluenza, Bordetella Bronchiseptica (Kennel Cough), Leptospirosis.
For Cats: Feline Panleukopenia (Infectious Enteritis), Feline Respiratory Disease Complex, and Feline Leukemia. Snuffles vaccinations for cats are also highly recommended.

5. Residency
Pets must have been continuously residing in South Africa for the preceding 6 months, or since birth, before departure.
6. Import Permit
An Import Permit is required for Hong Kong.
7. Quarantine
Pets travelling from Group 3 countries are required to quarantine for a minimum of 120 days (4 months) at Hong Kong’s Government Animal Management Centre.
8. Banned Breeds
The following dog breeds (or crosses thereof) are prohibited from being imported into Hong Kong:

Dogo Argentino;

Fila Brasileiro;
-
Japanese Tosa;
-
Pit Bull Terrier or American Pit Bull Terrier.
Furthermore:

Staffordshire Bull Terriers (English) must be accompanied with a statutory declaration attesting to the breed of the dog.

Bengal Cats may not be imported, unless documents are provided to certify that the cat is of 5th or above generations of domestic ancestry.

Dogs and cats more than 4 weeks pregnant may not be imported.
9. Health Certificate
Your pet must have a Health Certificate issued by a private veterinarian, confirming compliance with the above requirements, and State Vet endorsement is not required. This must be done within 14 days of departure. We provide our clients with a completed and accurate Health Certificate, along with clear guidance on what needs to be done.
