1. Age of Animal

To travel to China, your pet must be at least 5 months or older. They need their own Rabies vaccinations, in which the first vaccination can be given at 12 weeks, and a Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titre Test report (details in section 5).

2. Microchip

Your pet must be microchipped with a 15-digit, ISO11784/11785 compliant pet microchip. The microchip should be implanted either before or at the same time as the first Rabies vaccination. Only a microchip implanted by an official, registered veterinarian will be accepted for export purposes.

Please note: If your pet's microchip is not ISO compliant, you may supply your own microchip scanner, capable of reading your pet's microchip.

3. Rabies Vaccination

Two Rabies vaccinations are required. Both vaccinations must have been given no less than thirty days and no more than one year before the intended travel date. The second Rabies vaccination should be administered thirty days after the first one, and within one year of the first Rabies vaccination’s expiry.

Please note: Only a registered veterinarian can administer these vaccinations for export purposes. Vaccinations given by a veterinary nurse, breeder, or welfare organization staff are not accepted.

4. Annual Vaccinations

Annual vaccinations for dogs and cats must be older than 30 days but not older than one year upon arrival. A valid vaccination certificate will be necessary if your pet requires boarding or kenneling before or after travel.

For Dogs: Canine Distemper, Infectious Canine Hepatitis, Canine Parvovirus, Canine Parainfluenza, Bordetella Bronchiseptica (Kennel Cough), and Leptospirosis.

For Cats: Feline Panleukopenia (Infectious Enteritis/Feline Distemper), Feline Rhinotracheitis, and Feline Calicivirus.

Please note: As with Rabies, these vaccinations must be administered by a registered veterinarian.

5. Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titre Test (RNATT)

The Rabies Antibody Titre test can be done at the same time as the second Rabies vaccination, or later. Pets may only enter China once the results have been received and the result is 0.5 IU/ml or higher.

The test results are valid for 12 months from the date they were conducted.

Please note: Blood for export purposes must be drawn exclusively by a registered veterinarian. All required information must be accurately completed on the laboratory submission form.

6. Quarantine

Only if there is no Rabies Titre blood test. However, each port of entry has different requirements, which can change. Please check with your pet travel consultant for the current quarantine requirements at the port where your pet will enter.

7. Important Notes

  • Only one pet per passport.

  • All pet documents must be under the client’s full passport name.

  • In addition to the pet’s documentation, the following information is also required from the pet’s owner:

    • The owner’s original passport is required for customs clearance.

    • A copy of the owner’s boarding card or flight itinerary to China.

    • A photo of the owner with the pet.

  • According to China customs regulations, pets must arrive at the port of entry within six months of the owner’s entry to China.

  • Please consult with your consultant to confirm if there have been any changes at the airport where your pet will be arriving.

8. Health Certificate

Your pets must be accompanied by an Official Third Country Veterinary Health Certificate issued by a private veterinarian, confirming compliance with the above requirements within 14 days of departure to China. This Health Certificate must be stamped and signed by the South African State Vet.
